Getting started & roles

PDP Shikshya is organised by role, and what you see depends on who you are. Accounts are created by your school — you don't sign up yourself. You'll receive an email with a one-time password to change on your first login.

A school admin runs one whole school — people, structure, branding, and settings. A department admin manages a single department's teachers and students. Teachers run their classes. Students learn and practise. Parents follow their own children.

Every school is a separate tenant, and each school's data is logically segregated from every other school's, with commercially reasonable measures against cross-tenant access. Within a school, access is scoped — teachers see their departments, parents see their children, students see themselves.

A student's home opens on their own greeting and Next up — the work waiting for them.
A teacher's home opens on the day — how many classes, how much is waiting to be marked — then the timetable itself and the tools they reach for most.
The school admin's Overview counts every person, grade, department and section in the school.
A parent's home lists only their own children; picking one scopes the panels below to that child.
The top bar switches theme and language (ने / EN) from any page.

Step by step

  1. Open your email invite from the school and copy the one-time password.
  2. Go to /login and sign in with your school email and that password.
  3. Set a new password when prompted; if you're locked out, use “Forgot your password?”.
  4. Land on your home dashboard — its layout is tailored to your role (student, teacher, admin or parent).
  5. Use the top bar any time to switch language (EN / ने) and theme (light / dark / brand).

The teacher's home screen

A teacher's home is built around the work of the day. It carries today's periods in the order they run — including any class handed over as cover — marking the one running now and counting down to the next, together with four counters: classes today, work waiting to be marked, students absent across the classes on your own timetable, and exams tomorrow.

One marking queue merges homework, worksheets and student-logged tasks into a single oldest-first list, so the submission that has been waiting longest is the one you see first, with its age printed on the row. A seven-day outlook lists the exams, school events and homework deadlines coming up.

There are also exam averages for each class you are class teacher of, with the change since the previous published exam of the same type; syllabus coverage for every class on your timetable; the drafts you left unfinished across worksheets, lesson plans, weekly plans, slides and question papers; the documents you opened most recently; and a launcher for the tools you use daily.

Customize Workspace switches any section off, moves the rest up or down into the order you want to work in, sets how many students the telemetry roster lists, and resets the arrangement to the default. The layout is saved to your account rather than to the device, so it is the same on every phone, tablet or desktop you sign in on. The launcher is built from the same menu the rest of the app uses, so a feature your school has switched off never leaves a dead tile behind.

Step by step

  1. Teachers: sign in and land on your home screen — today's periods carry the one running now, marked Now.
  2. Teachers: read the four day counters for classes today (cover classes included), work waiting to be marked, absences in your own classes, and exams tomorrow.
  3. Teachers: work down the Pending work queue from the top — it is ordered oldest first across homework, worksheets and student-logged tasks.
  4. Teachers: scan This week for exams, school events and homework falling due over the next seven days.
  5. Teachers: pick up an unfinished draft from “Continue where you left off”, or reopen a document from “Recently used”.
  6. Teachers: open Customize Workspace from the account menu to switch any home-screen section off, move the rest up or down into the order you want, or reset the layout — your arrangement is saved to your account and follows you to any device.

AI Socratic Tutor (Learn / Exam)

The AI tutor teaches from your school's uploaded curriculum, in English or नेपाली. In Learn mode it works Socratically — asking questions, giving graded hints, and checking your understanding rather than handing over finished answers. In Exam mode it stays strictly inside the loaded curriculum so revision never drifts off-syllabus.

Maths and science answers highlight equations clearly, and a full-screen mode gives you room to work through a problem. Your chat history follows you across devices, so a conversation you start on a classroom computer is waiting on your phone at home.

Privacy is built in: the platform removes or masks names and other direct identifiers, as far as is technically feasible, before a tutoring request is sent to the third-party AI provider that powers the tutor. When the platform finds a strong match in your loaded curriculum, the explanation cites the book, chapter and page it came from so students and teachers can trace the source.

  1. Students: open the Tutor from your dashboard.
  2. Pick your subject so the tutor loads the right curriculum.
  3. Choose Learn mode to be guided with questions and hints, or Exam mode to stay strictly on-syllabus.
  4. Type your question or the problem you're stuck on and send it.
  5. In Learn mode, try the hint yourself before asking for more — the tutor adapts to where you're stuck.
  6. Tap full-screen to work through equations, and check the cited chapter and topic under each explanation.

Practice games

Practice turns revision into a game. Quizzes are aligned to your exact grade, subject, and topic, so a Grade 9 set is pitched differently from a Grade 12 one. Alongside quizzes there are puzzles — word scramble, match-up, odd-one-out, and memory — for topic-specific practice in a lighter format.

You earn points and badges, and a daily check-in plus a login streak reward coming back regularly. A leaderboard adds friendly competition across the class.

Interactive Courses (academics, exam prep & coding)

Interactive Courses is a large, self-paced learning library — over 110 courses and more than 3,700 lessons. It spans the full academic curriculum (Maths, Science, English, Nepali and Social Studies, organised by grade band), SEE and NEB board-exam preparation, and a deep learn-to-code track (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, SQL, React, Node.js, C, C++, Java, TypeScript, PHP, Git, Go, Kotlin, Linux, cybersecurity, data science and Arduino electronics, and more), alongside office skills, life skills, moral stories and interactive simulations. It's an optional feature a school admin can switch on.

Every lesson is written in plain English with an “in simple words” explanation, and — where there's code — an “explain each line” annotator that walks through it one line at a time. A “Try it Yourself” editor runs code live in the browser — HTML/CSS/JS, Python, SQL, React, PHP and C/C++ — with a practice Linux terminal and even an Arduino circuit simulator, so learners experiment without installing anything. Lessons mix readings, flashcards and fill-in-the-blank exercises, per-lesson quizzes check understanding, and progress is tracked as you go.

A searchable catalogue with category filters — academics, exam prep, programming, web development, computer science, life skills and more — makes it easy to find the right course among the hundred-plus.

  2. Student: open Courses to see the catalogue, then use the search box or the category filters (academics, exam prep, programming, life skills…) to narrow it down.
  3. Click a course to open it, then pick a lesson from its list to start learning.
  4. Read the lesson, and tap “in simple words” for a plain explanation or “explain each line” to walk through any code one line at a time.
  5. Open the “Try it Yourself” editor to run code live — HTML/CSS/JS, Python, SQL, React, PHP or C/C++ — or use the practice Linux terminal and the Arduino circuit simulator, with nothing to install.
  6. Work through the flashcards and fill-in-the-blank exercises, then take the per-lesson quiz; your progress is saved as you go.

Notes Studio

Notes Studio turns any material into ready-to-study notes. A student pastes text, or uploads a photo or PDF of a page — the AI reads it (including handwriting and Nepali), then produces a clean summary, a set of flashcards, and a short quiz. Notes can be kept and revisited, and images or PDFs can be attached for reference.

  1. Student: open Notes Studio from your dashboard.

Ask a Doubt

When a student is stuck, they can post a doubt — a question with an optional photo of the problem — to their school. Classmates and teachers answer, helpful answers can be up-voted, and the asker marks the one that solved it. Over time it builds a searchable bank of real questions and answers for the whole class.

Each doubt on the board shows its subject, votes, answer count and whether it is resolved.
The answer the asker accepted is highlighted, and every answer carries its own up-vote count.

Step by step

  1. Student: open Ask a Doubt and first search the board — someone may already have asked your question.
  2. If it's new, tap to post a doubt: write your question and attach a photo of the problem if it helps.
  3. Wait for classmates and teachers to reply, and follow the thread of answers.
  4. Teachers & classmates: open an unanswered doubt, post a clear explanation, and up-vote the answers that help most.
  5. Asker: once an answer solves it, mark it as accepted so others can find the working solution fast.

Visualize & Simulate

Some ideas click only when you can see them move. Visualize & Simulate builds an interactive 2D or 3D animation for a topic on demand — a physics setup, a geometry construction, a biology process — that students explore right in the browser. Real anatomical 3D organ models are included, and a teacher can save a simulation into a lesson or chapter for the class.

As you type, simulations that already exist appear marked “Ready now” — those open immediately, while “Generate” builds a new one.
The simulation is interactive: pause it, reset it, toggle labels, and drag the sliders to change conditions.

Step by step

  1. Open Visualize & Simulate from the app menu.
  2. Start typing the topic you want to see — for example “projectile motion” or “the human heart”.
  3. Watch the suggestions under the box: anything marked “Ready now” has already been built, so it opens straight away at no cost. Pick one if it matches.
  4. If nothing matches, choose “Generate” to build a new one — that takes longer, up to about two minutes.
  5. Choose 2D or 3D, then fill in any inputs the topic asks for (such as angle, speed, or which organ).
  6. Interact with the result — drag, rotate, and play or pause the animation to explore it.
  7. Teachers: pick a subject lesson or chapter and save the simulation there so the class can reopen it.
  8. Students: revisit a saved simulation from the subject to review the idea before an assessment.

Import & Convert

Import & Convert turns existing material into platform content. A teacher uploads a textbook, notes, a scan, or a photo — including image-only and Nepali PDFs — and the AI converts it into a clean lesson, a set of practice questions, or a whole reconstructed book split into chapters to publish. Nepali stays in Nepali unless you ask for a translation.

Pick your file and what to convert it into, then check the extracted text and fix anything before converting.

Step by step

  1. Open Import & Convert (teachers and admins).
  2. Upload your source file — a textbook, notes, a scan, or a photo, including image-only or Nepali PDFs.
  3. Choose what to convert it into: a clean lesson, a set of practice questions, or a full reconstructed book.
  4. Leave Nepali as Nepali, or ask for a translation only if you need one.
  5. Preview the AI-converted output and edit anything that needs fixing.
  6. For a full book, select which chapters to publish to the class syllabus.

Flashcards & Mock Tests

Flashcards are personal study decks that use spaced repetition: each card is scheduled to come back just before you'd forget it, so facts, definitions and formulas move into long-term memory with little wasted effort. Students build their own decks per subject and review whatever is due that day.

Mock Tests are timed, exam-style practice papers in the spirit of the SEE and NEB boards. Each attempt is scored and saved to a history, so students can sit a paper under real time pressure and watch their results improve across the term.

Each deck shows how many cards are due today — “Study due” reviews just those, and spaced repetition schedules the rest.

  1. Open Flashcards and create a deck for a subject.
  2. Add cards with a question or term on the front and the answer on the back.
  3. Start today's review and go through the cards that are due.
  4. Rate how well you knew each card so spaced repetition schedules its next appearance.
  5. Switch to Mock Tests and start a timed, exam-style paper for your grade and subject.
  6. Submit before the timer ends to get your score, then open your history to track results across the term.

Homework & Assignments

Teachers assign homework to a class with instructions, attachments, and a due date; students submit their work and get it back graded with feedback. Teachers can attach resources from the Library, the AI offers a time estimate so workloads stay realistic, and each assignment automatically creates a slot in the student's study diary. A class representative can also propose homework, which the teacher reviews and approves before it goes out.

Assignments come in a few shapes: a quiz or puzzle drawn from the practice games, or a homework task built from a PDF the teacher uploads. Everything is tied to the relevant subject and class.

  3. Teachers: write the instructions, attach any resources from the Library, and set a due date (check the AI time estimate to keep the workload realistic).
  4. Teachers: publish the assignment to send it to the class and drop a slot into every student's study diary.
  5. Class reps: use Propose homework to draft a task for the teacher, who reviews and approves it before it goes out.
  6. Students: open the assignment before the deadline, complete the task, and submit your work.
  7. Teachers: open each submission, enter a grade, write feedback, and return it so the student can read your comments.

Worksheets (Grades 1–5)

For younger learners, teachers generate printable or interactive worksheets for the early grades. Interactive worksheets are auto-graded across a dozen question types — matching, tracing, counting, fill-in and more — while printable versions are ready for the classroom. Content is drawn from the primary curriculum.

  1. Teachers: open Worksheets and choose a grade between 1 and 5 along with the subject and topic.
  2. Teachers: pick the question types you want — matching, tracing, counting, fill-in and more — and generate the worksheet from the primary curriculum.
  3. Teachers: review the generated worksheet and regenerate or edit until it fits the class.
  4. Teachers: choose Print for a classroom-ready copy, or assign the interactive, auto-graded version to students.
  5. Students: open the assigned interactive worksheet and complete each question in the browser.
  6. Students: submit to get instant marking across all the auto-graded question types.

Attendance

Teachers mark attendance per class period from the roster. Summaries roll up so students and parents can follow attendance over time, and parents are alerted to absences. Admins can review patterns across the school, and attendance feeds into analytics and report cards.

Class Routine planner

The class routine planner builds the weekly timetable. First you define the daily bell schedule of periods, then you lay subjects and teachers across the week. It automatically flags when a teacher is double-booked, and a teacher's “My teaching” view shows just their own periods at a glance.

  1. Admins: open the Routine planner and pick the class whose timetable you're building.
  2. Define the daily bell schedule first — add each period with its start and end time.

  5. Save the routine so students and teachers see it on their dashboards.

Cover & Substitution

When a teacher is away, admins arrange cover without clashes. The substitution planner shows who's free in each period and lets an admin assign a stand-in, so the day's timetable keeps running smoothly.

  1. Admins: open the substitution planner and pick the day cover is needed.
  2. Mark the absent teacher so their periods are flagged for cover.
  3. For each affected period, check the list of teachers who are free.
  4. Assign an available teacher to stand in, avoiding any clash with their own timetable.
  5. Save the cover so the stand-in sees the added period on their day.

Efficiency Diary

The Efficiency Diary is a personal weekly study timetable. Students block out when they'll study what, and an AI day-planner suggests a sensible plan for the day. Homework automatically drops a slot into the diary, so revision and assignments live in one place.

  1. Students: open the Efficiency Diary from your dashboard.
  2. Block out slots across the week for when you'll study each subject.
  3. Tap the AI day-planner to get a suggested schedule for the day.
  4. Adjust the suggested plan to fit around your fixed commitments.
  5. Check the diary for homework slots that dropped in automatically from assignments.
  6. Revisit and tweak your plan as the week goes to keep it realistic.

Subject Hub & Library

The Subject Hub gathers everything for a subject in one place: a syllabus tracker that shows how far the class has progressed, a resource vault of notes and references attached to the subject, and a guided tutor scoped to that subject. The Library is the wider, school-wide resource collection — notes, references, and reading material organised for easy access and re-used as homework attachments.

  1. Open a subject to reach its hub, then check the syllabus tracker to see how far the class has progressed.
  2. Browse the resource vault of notes and references attached to that subject.
  3. Use the guided tutor scoped to the subject to work through its topics.
  4. Teachers & admins: add notes and references to the Subject Hub or the school-wide Library.
  5. Students: open the Library to find supporting material across subjects.
  6. Attach a Library resource to homework when setting or completing an assignment.

Syllabus coverage

Chapters are defined per subject and grade, and every section of that grade shares them. What a particular class has actually been taught is therefore recorded against the class, not the grade: on the Syllabus page a teacher picks the subject, the grade and one section, and then ticks chapters off for that class.

Each tick stores the date and the name of the teacher who made it, so where two teachers share a class they build one record between them instead of two competing ones. The coverage header shows chapters taught out of chapters planned, as a running percentage.

Give a chapter a target date and the page can also read the pace back. It reports On track; Needs attention, listing every chapter now past its date; or “No target dates set” when no chapter carries a date at all. That last state is deliberate — with nothing stated to measure against there is no honest basis for a verdict, so the page says so rather than calling a class on track. If an exam is scheduled for that subject and grade, it is shown with the days remaining.

Every class on a teacher's timetable also appears, with its coverage, on the teacher home screen.

Step by step

  1. Teachers and admins: open Syllabus and choose the subject and the grade.
  2. Choose a section in the third picker — coverage only becomes meaningful once one class is named.
  3. Tick a chapter to record that this class has been taught it; untick to undo. The date and your name are stored with the tick.
  4. Open a chapter for editing and set a Target date for when it should be finished.
  5. Read the coverage header for the running percentage and the pace: On track, Needs attention with the overdue chapters listed, or “No target dates set”.
  6. Teachers: check the Syllabus progress card on your home screen to see every class on your timetable at once.

Timeline & Chat

The school timeline is a moderated feed: posts can target specific grades, sections, or roles and can include media, and readers can like and comment. Students can post too, but only general, info, or alert posts, keeping the feed appropriate.

Chat covers direct messages and group chats with media, pinned messages, search, and member management. For safety, student-to-student chats are visible (read-only) to the student's teachers and admins.

One timeline post: who wrote it and in what role, the post type, the audience it was sent to, and its like and comment counts.

  1. Open the timeline to read posts aimed at you, then like and comment on them.

  3. Students: post only general, info or alert updates to keep the feed appropriate.
  4. Open Chat and start a direct message or a group chat, adding members as needed.
  5. Send media, pin the key messages, and use search to find past conversations.
  6. Teachers/admins: review student-to-student chats, which are read-only visible to you for safety.

Calendar (BS / AD)

The calendar shows school events, holidays, and deadlines. It supports both Bikram Sambat (Nepali, the default) and Gregorian (AD) dates, with month and year views, so it fits how Nepali schools actually plan. Switch between the two systems whenever you need.

  1. Open the Calendar from your dashboard.
  2. Use the BS / AD toggle to switch between the Bikram Sambat (default) and Gregorian date systems.
  3. Switch between month and year views to plan the term at the level you need.
  4. Browse events, holidays and deadlines laid out across the dates.

Notifications keep everyone informed — new homework, grades, announcements, messages, and reminders all surface in the in-app activity centre and the notification bell. Signals (Proof of Thought)

Signals is the Proof-of-Thought surface, and it is for school staff only. It gathers what the Socratic Tutor observed while students were working — tutoring sessions, reasoning attempts, breakthroughs and moments of struggle — over the last 30 days.

The roster lists the students in your department: what each was last working on, how many attempts they made, and a reading of their recent sessions labelled in words — Steady, Mixed or Needs review. It can be searched by name, email or ID and filtered by grade, section or subject, and clicking a row opens that student's full profile and activity. Those labels describe the observations, not the child.

A second list gathers the students whose recent sessions show repeated struggle and offers two next steps for each: route them to a face-to-face review, or open a peer study group chat. Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, a label or a verdict about a student — it describes how learning sessions went, so a teacher can decide whether to step in.

Step by step

  1. Teachers and admins: open Signals from Assessment & Analytics in the menu. It appears only where the school has the AI Tutor switched on, since the tutor is the only thing that produces these signals.
  2. Read the class totals at the top — sessions, reasoning attempts, breakthroughs and struggles over the last 30 days.

Report cards pull together a student's marks, attendance, and feedback into a printable PDF on the school's own letterhead. They give parents a clear, periodic summary of how their child is doing.

The same AI can grade written essays and long answers with a suggested mark and constructive feedback, which the teacher reviews and adjusts — keeping the teacher in control while saving hours.

The app is built to be usable by everyone. A Focus & Calm mode reduces distractions and animation for learners who concentrate better with a quieter screen, and readable typefaces — including dyslexia-friendly and focus-friendly fonts — can be chosen per student, with guardians able to enforce settings for their child. Everything is bilingual (English / नेपाली), works in light, dark and brand themes, and is designed to meet WCAG 2.1 AA and to be operable by keyboard and screen reader.

Admins define the school's structure, the backbone everything else hangs on. Grades run 1–12 plus custom grades, each enabled or disabled as needed. Sections each have a class teacher and a single class representative. Departments group teachers and students, and grades are assigned to them. Class periods set the bell schedule, and a student-ID format builder controls how new student IDs are generated.

User management lists everyone with filters and a “last active” indicator, so admins can find and manage accounts quickly. Optional extra features — such as Coding Courses — can be switched on per school.

To keep practice fast and cost-efficient, the platform reuses generated practice questions. Questions are organised in a shared bank by grade, subject, and topic — generated once, then served again — while each student still draws questions they haven't seen. Weak questions can be retired so they're never served again.

  1. Students: just play a quiz — questions already in the bank for your grade, subject, and topic appear instantly, with no wait to generate them.
  2. Rely on the bank to serve you questions you haven't seen yet, even though the pool is shared across the class.

Schools can apply their own branding — a logo and address that appear on report cards and printable documents — so the platform feels like the school's own rather than a generic tool. If no logo is set, it falls back to the default PDP Shikshya logo.

Privacy & platform

Privacy is built in, not bolted on. Before an educational prompt is sent to an AI provider, the platform removes or masks direct identifiers — names, roll numbers, contact details — as far as is technically feasible. Each school is a separate tenant whose data is logically segregated from every other school's. A full login audit and role-scoped access round out the protections.

The platform is bilingual (English / नेपाली), uses the Bikram Sambat calendar by default, offers light, dark, and brand themes, and is responsive and accessible. It is hosted and managed by PDP Shikshya on cloud infrastructure we select and operate, and uploaded files and media may be held in managed object storage. See the Privacy page for the full policy.
